Perhaps he's assuming she has a job or doesn't want to pry into her personal life.
If you're close to Shayla, you might consider bringing it up with her in a gentle way.
You could ask something like, "Hey Shayla, how's everything going? Have you found a new job yet?"
This can open up a conversation without directly accusing her of anything.
Mike is a good man and he is the main reason for the change in Shayla!
